RES (Renewable Energy Systems), the world’s largest independent renewable energy company, today announced the commercial operation of the largest developed and constructed wind project in its portfolio – the 492 MW Maverick Creek Wind Project in Concho County, Texas.
Construction of the project began in September 2019 and created 400 construction jobs during peak construction and 25 full-time jobs to operate the facility. 127 wind turbines will generate renewable energy to power approximately 200,000 homes annually.
“RES has met the challenge to deliver clean energy in Texas head on,” says Tim Jordan, Senior VP of Construction . “We are proud of working alongside Algonquin to make clean energy a reality in Texas and are particularly grateful to our team that worked throughout the pandemic and engaged with the local community.”
RES employees engaged in various community support initiatives throughout the construction period, including a donation to create handicapped accessible tables and playgrounds for children, raising money to provide over 140 gifts for children during the holiday season, and several donations in support of various education initiatives.
“Maverick Creek is a fantastic example of innovation and partnership coming together to make a positive impact on both the local economy and our collective broader sustainability goals,” says Jeff Norman, Chief Development Officer of Algonquin. “We’re very pleased to work arm-in-arm with RES on this project, and want to acknowledge all the dedication and hard work that has gone into getting us to operational status.”
The project was originally developed by Roaring Fork Wind, LLC, a joint venture partnership between RES and Steelhead Americas, Vestas’ development arm in North America. In August 2019, RES announced a joint agreement with Algonquin Power & Utilities Corp. to develop the project.
