Returning to a culture of care: Leanne Anderson’s boomerang story

RES promotes employee voices and fosters collaboration to achieve our vision where everyone has access to affordable zero carbon energy – a value that inspired Leanne Anderson to return after an 8-month absence. Initially departing RES to explore a similar role with a smaller organization, Leanne ultimately rejoined for our culture of care. Now serving as Sr. Business Development & Strategy Manager for RES construction services in the Americas, Leanne views her boomerang experience as a period of introspection.
The Throw: a continuance in utility
In her previous position as a Business Development Manager at RES, Leanne thrived in the utility space, managing key accounts for utility T&D construction clients. While Leanne cherished the people and culture at RES, her personal goals at the time drove her to seek a change. In February of 2023, Leanne left on good terms to advance further into the utility space and promote distribution construction services.
The Pinnacle: a time of reflection
During her time away, Leanne reflected on RES’s commitment to supporting our employees.
“I had an opportunity to reevaluate my professional priorities and what I really valued in a company,” says Leanne. “RES has a supportive environment that is unique to the industry.”
Before leaving RES, Leanne did not recognize how special this reinforced culture was.
“I realized early on after my departure the sense of belonging and inclusion I felt at RES, especially as a woman, was unique,” she said. “Ultimately, the feeling of having a voice and being valued for my skillset during my time at RES is what led me to reconsider my decision to leave.”
The Return: a culture of care
In October 2023, Leanne reassumed her previous position at RES with an expanded scope, encompassing business development in solar and battery storage.
“In some regard, it felt like I was starting something new. I’m learning and getting exposure to parts of the business I had not before because my focus was so specific and niche. I’m having a lot of fun supporting internal teams and clients aligned with more of RES service offerings,” says Leanne.
Since her return, Leanne embraced continuous growth opportunities and soon became the Sr. Business Development & Strategy Manager. In addition to a more senior role in business development, she now leads the Proposals team. With her leadership role, Leanne can more readily further our culture of care, an environment that seeks to build on the diversity of perspectives by promoting collaboration.
“Collaboration is something I really appreciate. The fact that it is reinforced, and it is represented as a RES value is important,” said Leanne. “If it is not happening, then we can recenter, realign and be reminded of what is important to us.”
As Leanne adjusts to her new responsibilities, she reflects on her time away from RES without regrets. Her journey underscores the valuable impact of employee voices on company culture.
