Platinum and gold: RES earns top certifications recognising people-centric initiatives  

• ​Diversity programme recertified by U.S. solar and storage trade association
• ​Americas headquarters achieves top health and well-being building standard

Leading renewable energy company RES has earned two top-level certifications recognising its focus on creating a positive working environment for its people.

RES has been recertified as Platinum in the Solar Energy Industries Association® (SEIA) Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Justice (DEIJ) programme. The company also has earned WELL Certification at the Gold level from the International Well Building Institute pbc™ (IWBI) for the company’s Americas headquarters building in Denver, Colorado, which opened in January 2023.

SEIA DEIJ Platinum Certification

The SEIA programme helps U.S. energy businesses make tangible progress in their DEIJ journeys. Designed by diversity-certified professionals, the online programme uses evidence-based approaches to improve diversity practices within companies. The programme guides participants through a broad range of modules, requiring them to complete activities that help create a more inclusive work environment, serve the communities they work in, and attract, hire, promote and retain diverse talent.

RES was the first company to achieve Platinum status in 2023. Over the past year, feedback from this programme and surveys of RES people has led to improvements such as expanding our employee affinity networks to include military veterans and early careers, and enhancing mental health, adoption, infertility, parental leave and transgender-inclusive benefits.

Founded in 1974, SEIA is the national trade association for the solar and solar + storage industries, building a comprehensive vision for the Solar+ Decade through research, education and advocacy.

WELL Certification at Gold level

With goals of bringing people into a new office in a post-COVID environment and increasing employee collaboration and connection, the design team used the principles of premier building standard to focus on enhancing health and well-being through the buildings where people live, work and play. Created through seven years of rigorous research and development working with leading physicians, scientists, and industry professionals, the WELL Building Standard is a performance-based certification system that marries best practices in design and construction with evidence-based scientific research.

The standard includes 10 categories of building performance: Air, water, nourishment, light, movement, thermal comfort, sound, materials, mind and community. Features that helped the office achieve the top rating include biophilic elements such as greenery, natural and nature-inspired materials to promote mental wellbeing; restorative spaces for non-work activities to provide cognitive and emotional support; increased access to natural daylight and LED lighting to enhance visual comfort; and active furnishings such as sit-stand desks and adjustable chairs to provide ergonomic support helping productivity and physical activity.
