RES secures O&M contract at Europe’s largest battery storage project

by RES | Ağu 03, 2021 | Okuma süresi: 2 min

– Minety battery storage project, located in Wiltshire adds a further 100MW to RES’ growing O&M portfolio –

RES, the world’s largest independent renewable energy company, has won a tender to provide storage O&M services for China Huaneng Group’s Minety battery storage project.

The Minety project, located 12 miles north west of Swindon, is Europe’s largest battery storage development to date. It will now be supported by RES’ experienced technicians who will oversee the preventative maintenance and monitor the project 24/7/365 from the company’s global Control Centre.

Since 2014, RES has been operating battery energy storage projects. The utility-grade batteries at Minety will store electricity from the national grid at times of low demand and high renewables generation, with the stored energy exported back to the grid at times of high demand and lower renewable electricity generation.

Simon Deacon, Operations and Maintenance Director at RES, said: “We’re really pleased to secure our first O&M contract with China Huaneng Group at Minety. Our team of experienced technicians will be working closely with our client to ensure that we maximise availability at the project, allowing Minety to provide flexibility to the grid for the benefit of consumers in the UK 24/7/365.”

Jingyu Guo, Director of Minety Project from China Huaneng Group, said: “Minety is a landmark project for China Huaneng Group. It’s the largest battery storage site deployed in Europe to date, so we’re pleased to be working alongside leaders in the renewables sector, RES, in the operation of this important project. RES have demonstrated their knowledge and experience of operating battery storage projects and we’re looking forward to optimising the value of this project with our new partners.”

The project has also recently secured planning permission to extend the 100MW project by a further 50MW.

RES is active in onshore and offshore wind, solar, energy storage, transmission and distribution. Offering asset management and operations and maintenance, RES operates in ten countries across the world and in its 39-year history has delivered more than 21GW of renewable energy projects.
