by RES | Ara 11, 2020 | Okuma süresi: 2 min
RES, one of the world’s leading renewable energy developers, has submitted a Development of National Significance application to the Planning Inspectorate for its Upper Ogmore Wind Farm and energy storage project. The proposal has been refined through several design iterations based on feedback received during the public consultation process and information gathered during detailed site survey work.
The renewable energy company has been progressing proposals for a seven-turbine wind farm and energy storage project, located near Blaengarw and Nant-y-Moel in Bridgend, since 2017 from its Cardiff office. The 25MW project would be capable of supplying approximately 21,000 homes with clean, low cost electricity every year, equivalent to around a third of all the homes in Bridgend County Borough. The scheme would also make a significant contribution towards The Welsh Governments target of meeting 70% of electricity demand from renewables by 2030.
If consented, the project will provide significant economic benefits to the local economy, with the project anticipated to deliver local investment of more than £1.9 million during construction and the first year of operation. Additionally, RES expects that £16 million in business rates would be paid across the lifetime of the project, contributing to vital local services in the area.
Chris Jackson, Senior Development Project Manager said: “As well as helping to tackle climate change, Upper Ogmore could provide much needed economic benefits for the local area. RES has a strong track record of maximising inward investment opportunities and if the project progresses, we are committed to working with the supply chain to utilise as many local businesses as possible.
“The Welsh Government has set ambitious targets for electricity from renewable energy and projects like Upper Ogmore will help achieve these at the lowest cost for consumers.”
Upper Ogmore is the first onshore wind project to be considered under the Developments of National Significance planning process and will be assessed by The Planning Inspectorate on behalf of Welsh Government before the decision is made by the Welsh Ministers.
