RES receives generation license for Elmacık Wind Power Plant

by RES | Oct 11, 2024 | Reading time: 2 min

Istanbul, 7 October 2024 – Leading renewable energy company RES has announced it has received a Generation License for its 70MW Elmacık Wind Power Plant (WPP) from the Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EMRA). Elmacık will be located in Kırklareli, Türkiye and the 12 turbines are anticipated to generate 305GWh of clean electricity every year.

It is a significant milestone for the project, which aligns with the Turkish National Energy Plan’s long-term vision to increase the share of renewable energy in the country’s electricity production to 45.7% by 2026. The Elmacık WPP is set to play a vital role in this vision as well as providing local jobs and employment opportunities during the construction and operation of the wind power plant.

Batuhan Türkmen, Project Development Manager, at RES commented“It’s truly exciting to see Elmacık WPP move one step closer to becoming operational with the granting of this license. Developing this project in one of Türkiye’s most challenging regions in terms of permits has been no small task. However, it’s equally rewarding given the exceptional wind speeds that will make this site one of the most productive in the country.”

The renewable energy market in Türkiye continues to grow rapidly. In the energy production analysis conducted by DNV across a range of different turbines anticipates the capacity factor of Elmacık WPP will be between 44-45.7% – making it one of Türkiye’s leading wind power plants.

Notes for editors:

  • Elmacık WPP is located in the Kofçaz and Merkez districts of the Kırklareli province.
  • The 12 turbines are designed to produce up to 305 gigawatt hours (GWh) of clean, renewable energy annually.
  • It will take approximately 14 months to construct the project, there will be significant benefits to the local economy including up to 80 jobs during the construction phase and 10 permanent roles during operations.
  • Capacity factor values are taken from the energy yield analysis by DNV and turbine availability data provided by OEMs.
