Repowering: why ain’t it happening?
Tuesday, 8 April 2025, 14:00 – 15:15, Auditorium 12
The oldest wind farms are often located in sites with excellent wind conditions but have the least efficient turbines. Repowering them with new turbines is very effective, but not enough is happening. Many European countries lack effective repowering strategies, and cumbersome permitting procedures are holding back progress. Grid connections for repowered wind farms are difficult to obtain, leading developers to keep old turbines running instead. This needs to change to ensure the benefits of repowering are realized across Europe. Join this panel discussion to learn if and how we can boost the repowering of old wind farms.
Speakers: Session Chair – Rachel Anderson (Global Head of Corporate Communications and Government Affairs, RES), Giuseppe Costanzo (Senior Analyst – Markets and Wind Energy Technology, WindEurope), Alessandro Polito (Team Leader for RES manufacturing and deployment, European Commission), Irina Sova (Head of Quality, LM Wind Power), Thomas Winkler (Managing Director, VSB Germany), Johan Terpstra ( Western Europe, Enercon), Luca Bragoli (Chief Regulatory & Public Affairs Officer, ERG)
Digitalising for more energy
Wednesday, 9 April 2025, 14:00 – 15:15, Auditorium 10
Digitalisation has revolutionised wind energy by making it more efficient, safer, and profitable. It helps reduce operation and maintenance costs while improving performance and productivity. But what is the current state of digitalisation in the sector and how will it evolve? Is there a need for common terminology and metrics to standardize data collection and analysis? Will this facilitate the validation and transferability of digital technologies? And what is the role of AI in all this? In this session, panelists will explore how digitalisation is transforming the wind energy sector and share their insights on the subject.
Speakers: Session Chair – Juan Gutierrez (Chief Executive Officer – Services, RES), Ines Wurth (CPO & Co-founder, Enerlace), Tom Sulzer (CEO & Co-founder, Sulzer & Schmid Laboratories), Paulo Ribeiro (Head of Operations for Renewables , EDP), Carol Yan (Sector Lead – Energy Transition and Renewables (EMEA), AWS), Thomas Leurent (CEO, Akselos), Parisa Bardouni (Senior Vice President, Chief Technology Officer, Aker Solutions), Lucy Craig (SVP Growth, Innovation & Digital, DNV), Dennis Rendschmidt (Managing Director, VDMA).
