Powering sustainability: How Ana Olivares ensures quality at the La Loma biomass plant

by RES | Mar 07, 2025 | Reading time: 3 min

In the town of Villanueva del Arzobispo, Jaén, the La Loma biomass plant plays a crucial role in Spain’s renewable energy efforts. Behind its efficient and sustainable operations is a dedicated team, including Ana Olivares, who oversees chemistry, quality, and environmental management. For Ana, this work is more than a responsibility—it’s a commitment to maintaining high standards and contributing to a cleaner future.

Since joining RES eight years ago, Ana has worked to ensure the plant operates at the highest standards. Every day, she meticulously analyses water and fuel samples, manages waste, and monitors emissions to ensure La Loma runs efficiently and with minimal environmental impact.

“For the plant to function properly, it is very important that the process water and fuel meet very strict parameters to maintain the efficiency of the equipment and reduce the environmental impact,” she explains. Her attention to detail and dedication contribute to the plant’s operational alignment with our sustainability goals.

She recalls how, on one occasion, the weather conditions were particularly adverse, but she had to face the situation with determination. Some continuous measurement equipment on the chimney, essential for controlling the plant’s emissions, was failing and needed to be repaired. Despite the difficulties, Ana did not hesitate to climb up the chimney, repair the equipment, and get it working again safely, allowing the plant to return to normal. It was an arduous task, but Ana felt satisfied that she had achieved her goal despite the challenges.

Beyond the technical demands of her role, Ana thrives in the collaborative work culture, where mutual support and teamwork are fundamental. The challenges of her work are met with the encouragement of colleagues who share her commitment to sustainability and operational excellence. This sense of belonging has been key to her professional and personal growth.

For Ana, working at RES means more than just being part of a company — it’s about making a difference. “Being part of a company that is 100% committed to renewables and clean energy, which is already the present of energy generation, is what being ‘Power for Good’ means to me. It’s about contributing to something bigger, a cleaner, more sustainable future.”

But Ana’s story extends beyond the plant. At home, she finds energy and motivation in her husband and son, who are her greatest supporters. A lifelong book lover, she unwinds through reading, always eager to learn something new. To maintain balance in her busy life, she keeps active with Zumba and plays volleyball with her local team—activities that keep her grounded and connected to her community.

Ana’s journey at RES is a testament to fostering talent in the energy sector. Her work ensures that La Loma remains a benchmark, proving that sustainability is not just about technology—it’s about the people who make it happen. Every sample she analyses, every measure she implements, and every challenge she overcomes, Ana is making a positive contribute to our vision and mission.
